Hoosick Falls used a fourth quarter rally to defeat Chatham 34-27 in a Class CC opening round contest. The Panthers advance to the quarterfinal round on Tuesday 2/21 and face #3 Corinth at Mayfield at 6 p.m.
Hoosick Falls manufactured a great group effort with a recovery as they surpassed the Panthers 19-8 in the closing minutes. That final push proved to be the difference.
Both teams scratched and clawed to score the ball in the opening quarter as they combined for a scant 6 points.
A winner was still unresolved as the teams went to the first half intermission with Hoosick Falls ahead by a small margin.
Hoosick Falls played solid as a rock in the second frame turning a 4-point first quarter deficit into a 2-point halftime bulge.
Chatham utilized excellent teamwork coming out of the half, after trailing in the first half, which helped them capture the lead 19-15 bearing down on the fourth period.
Emma Waugh led the Panthers with 10 points. Taegyn Hart contributed 7 points. Tatum Hickey bagged 7 points. Mackenna Roberson popped in 7 points.
Kendall Hayes was the straw that stirred the drink for the Panthers with 12 points. Grace Brennan splashed in 6 points.
