Averill Park slipped past Ballston Spa 51-44 in what turned out to be a terrific showdown of Capital Region basketball clubs. This meeting delivered the goods.
Averill Park produced a last period counterattack as they bested Ballston Spa 18-9 by the conclusion of the frame. After a Nick McCart free throw, with just over a minute left in the game, gave Averill Park its first lead since early in the 1st quarter Avery Pascucci nailed a clutch runner with 0:59 left in the game to give the Warriors the lead for good. Averill Park rallied from 11 points down in the 3rd quarter and used a 16-0 4th quarter scoring run. They survived this tough encounter.

The Scotties held a modest 2-point edge at the start of the fourth quarter. This grudge match was a war on the floor through the first twenty-four minutes of action. Ballston Spa ran into some foul trouble in the 2nd half and even with going 4+ minutes without a bucket in the 4th quarter still had a chance to win in the closing minute.
Sparked by a great team effort in the second half the Warriors outscored Ballston Spa 38-23 in the final two frames. That was contradictory to the first half when Ballston Spa built a 21-13 lead at the midway point. The Scotties used a tenacious zone defense to build as much as a 13 point first half lead.
Ballston Spa had great energy right from the tip off and started the game in style racing to a significant first quarter lead 13-6. They put together a lock down defense and took control of the quarter.
Defense reigned supreme in the 2nd quarter as the teams scored only 15 points.
Offense out shined the defense in the third quarter as the teams combined for a robust 34 points.
Keegan Zoller led Ballston Spa with 17 points. Luke Alteri registered 10 points. Jason Faizy collected 8 points. Zach Washington scored 5 points.
