Watervliet defeated Catholic Central 88-53 on the hardwood of Section 2 basketball. Messiah Mallory and J.J. Chestnut combined to score 52 points for the Cannoneers.
Watervliet were dominant in the second half as they pulled away for the decisive win.
The Cannoneers opened up a sizable halftime advantage of 43-29.
Watervliet played solid as a rock in the second frame turning a 5-point first quarter lead into a 14-point halftime bulge.
Watervliet used a tough hard-nosed effort in the third quarter and outscored Catholic Central by 15 points.
The Cannoneers were in command at every quarter buzzer by margins of 5, 14, 29, & 35.
Watervliet placed three players in double figure scoring. Messiah Mallory paced Watervliet with 29 points. J.J. Chestnut registered 23 points. Greene added 11 points.
Jackson Brown led Catholic Central with 22 points. Jimmy Turner poured in 8 points. Riley totaled 7 points.
The Crusaders knocked down 4 buckets from beyond the arc.
