Maple Hill won an instant classic versus Coxsackie-Athens 61-59 in one of the top games in the area. Ben Marra and Rian Jewett combined to score 37 points for the victors.
The Indians had great energy right from the tip off and sprinted out to a hefty first quarter lead 21-13. Yet, Maple Hill rallied in the second quarter and outscored Coxsackie-Athens by 11 points.
The squads revved up the offenses and combined for a net scorching 41 points in the second quarter. The outcome was still in limbo as the teams went to the first half intermission with Maple Hill nosing in front.
The Wildcats played well in the second period turning a 8-point first quarter deficit into a 3-point halftime bulge.
Coxsackie-Athens clawed back in the final quarter but time was clearly a factor.
Maple Hill placed three players in double figure scoring. Ben Marra led Maple Hill with 19 points. Rian Jewett contributed 18 points. Dominic Hirschoff had 13 points.
The Wildcats shot with sterling accuracy from the free throw line as they made 70.6%, 12 of 17.
