Berne-Knox escaped with a victory over Mayfield 54-46 in WAC action. Alexis Wright led the victors with 29 points. The Bulldogs depended on their consistent second half play as they led at the end of the the third frame and at the closing tick of the clock.
The Bulldogs held a small 4-point lead at the start of the fourth quarter. This battle of wills was headed towards an epic finish through the third frame.
Mayfield seemed focused right from the jump and sprinted out to a decent first quarter lead 15-8. Yet, The Bulldogs rallied in the second quarter and outscored Mayfield by 7 points.
The outcome was still in limbo as the teams went to the first half break with the game tied 26-26.
Both teams struggled to score the ball coming out of the locker room after the half as they combined for only 14 points. The Bulldogs came through with inspired basketball out of the break, after being all knotted up at the half, which helped them capture the lead 35-31 going into the fourth period.
