Lake George slipped past Waterford 52-48, to capture the Class C final, in what turned out to be a terrific showdown of Section 2 hoop clubs. Luke Pelchar led the victors with 19 points.
Lake George used a fourth quarter rally as they bested the Fordians 16-6 as regulation came to an end. That burst enabled them to celebrate the outcome. Their fourth consecutive sectional championship. Lake George will play the Section VII/X winner on March 14 at Hudson Valley Community College.
Sparked by a great team effort in the second half Lake George outscored the Fordians 26-17 in the final two quarters. That was reverse of the first half when the Fordians sprinted out to a 31-26 lead at the midway point.
Lake George held a small 2-point lead going into the second frame.
The two squads struggled to grab a foothold as the teams went to the first half intermission with Waterford gaining the upper hand.
Waterford played sound basketball in the second quarter turning a 2-point first quarter deficit into a 5-point halftime edge.
Luke Pelchar paced Lake George with 19 points. Juan Garcia contributed 10 points. Cameron Orr totaled 9 points. Cole Clarke sank 7 points.
The Warriors connected on 4 buckets from beyond the arc.
Lake George shot with sterling accuracy from the free throw line as they made 75%, 12 of 16.
