Queensbury squeaked by Holy Names 51-42 in a game that most fans expected to come down to the final buzzer. Hailey Ballard paced the Spartans with 19 points. The Spartans maximized their consistent second half play and they now advance to the Section 2 Class A championship game vs. Averill Park on Saturday at HVCC.
Holy Names seemed ready to go right from the jump and bolted out to a hefty first quarter lead 13-6. They relied on their stout defense and took control of the quarter. Yet, The Spartans rallied in the second quarter and outscored Holy Names by 12 points.
The two squads struggled to grab a foothold as the teams went to the first half stoppage with Queensbury gaining the upper hand. Queensbury played solid as a rock in the second quarter turning a 7-point first quarter deficit into a 5-point halftime edge.
