Colonie narrowly held off Columbia 59-51 in Class AA sectional game played today. The Garnet Raiders favorable outcome hinged on their unwavering second half play as they led at the end of the third period and at the final whistle.
Columbia held a modest 1-point edge heading into the second quarter. Colonie raced ahead after two quarters 34-21.
The Garnet Raiders played team basketball in the second frame turning a 1-point first quarter deficit into a 13-point halftime advantage.
Columbia clawed back in the final quarter but the clock wasn't on their side.
The Garnet Raiders placed four players in double figure scoring. Jayla Tyler put forth a strong offensive game for the Garnet Raiders with 15 points. Gabby Martin knocked down 13 points. Bella Franchi connected on 12 points. Macie Trimarchi popped in 10 points.
Colonie used expert marksmanship to make 11 baskets from downtown.
Jayla Tyler made 3 three-pointers. Gabby Martin added 3.
Leah Phillips paced the Blue Devils with 18 points. Kendyll Ouimette secured 15 points. Alivia Landy accounted for 6 points.
