Gloversville outlasted Troy 76-72 in what turned out to be a mammoth clash of Class A clubs. James Collar and Giorgio Glionna combined to score 52 points for the Dragons.
Gloversville outlasted Troy 76-72 in what turned out to be a mammoth clash of Class A clubs. James Collar and Giorgio Glionna combined to score 52 points for the Dragons.
Thirty-two minutes wasn't enough as the game went to double overtime where Gloversville beat out Troy 20-16 in the combined extra sessions. Gloversville advances to the semi-finals on 3/3 to play Amsterdam in Glens falls.
Troy held a slight 2-point advantage going into the final frame.
Both teams scratched and clawed to score the ball in the opening quarter as they combined for barely 13 points.
The two squads struggled to grab a foothold as the teams went to the first half locker room break with Gloversville nudging ahead.
The Flying Horses utilized excellent teamwork out of the break, in the wake of their first half deficit, and grabbed an advantage of 42-40 heading towards the last quarter.
Gloversville had a trio of players in double figure scoring. James Collar led Gloversville with 33 points. Giorgio Glionna got in the book with 19 points. Leo Perez finished with 10 points.
The Dragons made 4 baskets from long distance.
Gloversville shot with first-rate accuracy from the charity stripe as they produced 94.1%, 32 of 34.
