Every tournament takes into account each team’s current ranking and their current path to the title. Teams are broken down into 4 different categories based on their overall chance to win it all according to the rankings. They are as followed:

Each team is automatically classified into four categories based on their pre-tournament odds of winning their respective bracket. Here’s the key:

>= 25% chance to win= Favorite

>= 10% & < 25% chance to win= Contender

>= 5% & < 10% chance to win= Dark Horse

< 5% chance to win= Long Shot

A few questions based on the numbers:

Are there any clear cut teams that are the favorite to win the title?

Yes. Shen and Albany. Both receive byes and advance to the semi-final round automatically in this six team tournament.

Is there a team seeded #4 or below that could that could win a couple games, reach the final or win the classification?

Not really. # 4 Colonie and # 5 Saratoga would have to play an above average game to beat Shen in the next round.

Additional thoughts:

Shaker the #3 seed can play with  #2 Albany in the semi-final round. They'll need a big game from standout Peyton Hoblock to advance. Shen is the silght favorite to take the crown.

A few questions based on the numbers:

Are there any clear cut teams that are the favorite to win the title?

Yes. Averill Park is 20-0 on the season and the favorite to win their 10th straight sectional title. Led by Taylor Holohan, Arianna Verardi and Kayleigh Ahern on offense and a smothering defense it will take a huge team effort to knock them off.

Is there a team seeded #4 or below that could that could win a couple games, reach the final or win the classification?

No real longshots in this classification.

Additional thoughts:

Mohonasen vs. Burnt Hills in the opening round should be an even game. As will Niskayuna vs. Queensbury in the 4/5 quarterfinal matchup. Columbia and Bethlehem on a collision course for a semi-final game that will be must watch.

A few questions based on the numbers:

Are there any clear cut teams that are the favorite to win the title?

Catholic Central is the overwhelming favorite. The Colonial Council champs have a balanced offensive attack.

Is there a team seeded #4 or below that could that could win a couple games, reach the final or win the classification?

#4 Schalmont should get another chance vs. Catholic Central if the seeds hold up. The Sabres lost by 10 points in their most recent matchup with the Crusaders.

Additional thoughts:

A Holy Names vs Broadalbin Perth potential semi-final round game would be a close contest between the Colonial Council vs. Foothills Council teams.

A few questions based on the numbers:

Are there any clear cut teams that are the favorite to win the title?

Yes. Albany Academy. They are almost 30+ points clear of the next tier of teams in this class based on the season long computer rankings. Just an overwhelming favorite to win. They are well coached and led by Alex Leonard, Bella Vincent and Eva Gitto.

Is there a team seeded #4 or below that could that could win a couple games, reach the final or win the classification?

Yes. A bunch of teams can win a couple games as all the teams below Albany Academy have beaten up on each other in non-league action throughout the season.

Additional thoughts:

There look like some good first round games including Watervliet/Tamarac, Stillwater/La Salle, Schuylerville/Coxsackie Athens, Fonda/Cobleskill, and Mechanicville/Voorheesville.

A few questions based on the numbers:

Are there any clear cut teams that are the favorite to win the title?

Two teams. # 1 Northville and #3 Bishop Gibbons. The Falcons are led by 1000 point scorer Hailey Monroe and Keria Mackey. NDBG is paced by 1000 point scorer Angelina Deitz and Mia'Rose Wylie.

Is there a team seeded #4 or below that could that could win a couple games, reach the final or win the classification?

In a six field tournament there aren't any teams below the top three that seem likely to win two games.

Additional thoughts:

Hartford split with Bishop Gibbons during the regular season and shouldn't be discounted although the season long #'s don't seem to prefer them to the other top seeds.
