Duanesburg pulled away from league rival Berne Knox 58-33 to advance to the Class C title game on Friday March 3rd vs. the winner of Hoosic Valley and Warrensburg. Jeffrey Mulhern paced the Eagles with 24 points. Duanesburg built upon their steady second half play as they led at the end of the third period and at the culminating stoppage.

Duanesburg poured it on late in the second half as they coasted to victory beating the Bulldogs for the fourth time this season.

The Eagles closed out the contest with marvelous execution as they went past the Bulldogs by 15-points at the cruicial moment of the contest.

Both teams scratched and clawed to score the ball in the opening quarter as they combined for a scant 14 points. But, Berne Knox had great energy right from the tip off and took hold of the ball game on their way to an ample first quarter lead 10-4. They relied on their stout defense and played with great enthusiasm throughout the frame. Berne Knox, heavy underdogs in this matchup, scored the first eight points of the game and made life difficult for the Eagles on both ends of the court to start the contest.
 
Yet, Duanesburg had a resurgence in the second quarter and outscored Berne Knox by 14 points. The Eagles performed effectively in the second period turning a 6-point first quarter deficit into a 8-point halftime upper hand.

Jeffrey Mulhern led the Eagles with 24 points. Peyton Fall poured in 14 points. Owen Lohret tallied 7 points.

The Eagles shot with exceptional form at the free throw line as they made 73.3%, 11 of 15.
A.J. Wright was a catalyst for the Bulldogs with 16 points. Blake Shaver racked up 8 points. Dayne Coates poured in 5 points.

The Crusaders conquered South Glens Falls 59-38 to move on to the Class A title game vs. Averill Park on Friday March 3rd at HVCC. After a slow starting first quarter Catholic Central were in full command from the start of the second period until the final whistle.

South Glens Falls had great energy right from the tip off and rushed out to a decent first quarter lead 12-3. They used a lock down mentality protecting their basket and grabbed control of the frame. Yet, The Crusaders played much better in the second quarter and outscored South Glens Falls by 20 points.

South Glens Falls lagged behind 26-15 at the half.

The Crusaders performed well in the second period turning a 9-point first quarter deficit into a 11-point halftime supremacy. However, Catholic Central took advantage of a recalibration after intermission and led 46-26 headed to the fourth quarter.

The Crusaders placed four in double figure scoring. El' Dior Dobere led Catholic Central with 12 points. Angelena Giuliano contributed 11 points. Gabriella Di Bacco had 11 points. Karri Gaddy sank 10 points. Tanavia Turpin powered in 8 points.
Catholic Central buried 5 baskets from behind the three point line.
Gabriella Di Bacco made 3 three-pointers.

South Glens Falls had three shooting stars in double figure scoring. Jordan Wolfe put forth a strong offensive game for the Bulldogs with 15 points. Kate McDonough racked up 10 points. Alivia Killian knocked down 10 points.

Averill Park took care of business against their crosstown league rival Columbia 69-26 to advance to the Class A Final game vs. Catholic Central on Friday March 3rd at HVCC. Taylor Holohan put forth a strong offensive game for the victors with 23 points.

The Warriors were dominant in the second half as they were laser focused in victory.

Averill Park were dialed in right from the jump and took hold of the ball game on their way to a big first quarter lead, 20-6. They denied access to their hoop like a fortress and played with great enthusiasm throughout the frame.
 
Columbia lagged behind 37-12 at the half.

The Warriors played with purpose in the third quarter and outscored Columbia by 7 points.

Averill Park asserted their dominance and led at every frame finishes by advantages of 14, 25, 32, & 43.

The Warriors had a triplet in double figure scoring. Taylor Holohan showed the way for Averill Park with 23 points. Arianna Verardi contributed 16 points. Tatiana Tune bagged 15 points.

Averill Park shot excellent from the free throw line as they achieved 72.7%, 16 of 22.
Kendyl Ouimette put forth a strong offensive game for Columbia with 10 points. Alivia Landy scored 10 points.

NYSPHSAA Announces Winter 2025

Scholar-Athlete Teams, Individuals

 

LATHAM, NY – The New York State Public High School Athletic Association Inc. (NYSPHSAA) announces its winter 2025 Scholar-Athlete teams and number of Scholar-Athlete individuals per team. This is the 32nd year NYSPHSAA has conducted the Scholar-Athlete program.
   
NYSPHSAA recognized 38,598 students receiving scholar-athlete distinction by earning an individual average of 90 or above this winter season, whether their team qualified or not. Additionally, 3,303 Scholar-Athlete teams have been recognized for the winter 2025 season. To qualify as a team, 75% of a team’s average GPA for the season must be equal to or greater than 90%.

“Congratulations to the student-athletes on their rigorous efforts in the classroom,” said NYSPHSAA Executive Director, Dr. Robert Zayas. "Their relentless dedication to both interscholastic athletics and academics has earned them this well-deserved recognition—a truly impressive achievement. We applaud the more than 385,000 student-athletes who went above and beyond for their teams and for themselves."

This winter, 638 schools participated in the program- 81% of the NYSPHSAA membership.

Each season, schools are responsible for submitting the Scholar-Athlete information on the NYSPHSAA website. Greenwich led from start to finish on their way to a 53-39 win over Corinth in the Class CC Final. The Witches now play in the Class CC/C playoff, to advance to state tournament play, vs. Duanesburg on Friday March 3rd at HVCC. Greenwich looks to avenge last year's loss to the Eagles that knocked them out of tournament play.

The Witches stormed out of the locker room and sprinted out to a hefty first quarter lead 21-8.

Corinth lost ground 31-15 at the half.

The Tomahawks played with purpose in the third quarter and outscored Greenwich by 6 points.

The Witches asserted their dominance and led at every frame closures by margins of 13, 16, 10, & 14.

Brooke Kuzmich paced Corinth with 17 points. Norah Niesz registered 14 points. Cate Abate knocked down 9 points. Olivia Davis had 6 points. Reegan Mullen popped in 5 points.

Taylor Stone was a catalyst for the Witches with 14 points. Emily Dingmon chipped in 12 points. Whitney Cameron tallied 6 points.
The Tomahawks shot with exceptional form at the charity line as they produced 66.7%, 8 of 12.
